Become a ‘green IT’ expert and win more contracts!
Business and technology analyst Ovum recently revealed that three-quarters of CIOs have deployed ‘green IT’ within their organisations, while the proportion of companies using green IT grew to 73% last year. The most notable development has been around data centre virtualisation, with 52% of IT decision-makers using this technology.
By being aware of the ways in which they can help their clients improve their environmental credentials, IT contractors have a real opportunity to add value for their clients as the IT market moves increasingly towards a focus on green technology. Rhonda Ascierto, analyst at Ovum, said there are a number of fairly straightforward ways IT contractors can boost a company’s eco-credentials, such as desktop power management. She commented, “Among green IT that is relatively inexpensive and straightforward to deploy is printing and paper management, which includes solutions to automate policies for double-sided printing and defaulting to an eco-font that uses less ink than a regular font.”
