Contracting opportunities for construction workers in the South West
Dutch construction giant BAM are in the market for a number of contractors in the wake of their rising workloads which have encouraged them to increase their supply chain to keep up with demand. The company is known in the area for the Living Systems Building which was commissioned by Exeter University, the new UTC in Newton Abbott and Cornwall council’s new offices based in Bodmin. They have been recently confirmed as having secured a place on the Southern Construction Framework, which will improve their already burgeoning prospects.
The firm are now keen to hear from individuals and companies from across the whole of Cornwall and Devon who can supply a range of services including carpentry, bricklaying, joinery, drylining, landscaping, flooring, groundworks, window-fitting and glazing, plastering, electrical and metalworks.
BAM’s Exeter-based director of construction, Graham Kingdon, has confirmed that the firm is keen to invite new contractors to work with them across a number of different disciplines in anticipation of their expanding portfolio of projects across the South West. According to Mr Kingdon, there are no areas in which the company don’t build when it comes to the West Country.
The company is even organising event to get the opportunity to meet local workers who might be able to help them achieve their goals, which extend to a range of industries including healthcare, education, office space, leisure and retail. The availability of such projects suggests that their prospects are good and that they will have plenty of work for the foreseeable future.
BAM recognises that local knowledge could be key to their success, which is why they are so keen to bring in workers who are living and working in the area already. They believe that they can attribute the quality of their work to their understanding of the areas in which they undertake projects. BAM is also one of the founders of the newly established South West Shared Apprenticeship Scheme, so they will be looking for companies in the area that would like to be involved in such a venture.
BAM’s enthusiasm for local recruitment is creating a win-win situation, whereby the projects that they work on bring economic benefits to the local area which stimulate economic growth and improve the prospects for businesses and individuals in the area.
