Coronavirus Job Retention Bonus: Further Information Released
According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), contractor opportunities rose month on month from April to May 2016.
The report showed an increase in demand for contractors within all areas of business, but with permanent roles becoming fewer. This further increase in contractor demand highlights the shortage of skilled staff in the UK, whereby UK businesses are now seeing huge candidate shortfalls within a range of sectors.
With contractor availability falling last month this could be an indicator that there are more highly skilled workers are already in contracts. Although the rate of decline has eased up a little, the supply vs demand for contractors is growing further apart. With contractors being unable to take on new contracts, this has meant that average daily rates have risen, in order to attract highly skilled candidates.
All in all, this is great news for the contracting market, with demand remaining strong and contractors specifically in the North of the UK currently enjoying the highest increase in rates.
