Demand for business contractors reaches record high
Recruiters in London are reporting unprecedented levels of demand for contractors to fill senior roles, according to the leading UK recruiting contract provider.
The data was collated from vacancies advertised across 180 job boards and covering half a million employer websites and shows that the number of postings for these kinds of roles have increased at a rate of 23 per cent quarter-on-quarter. The number of director-level vacancies also increased quarter-on-quarter by 39 per cent, with 1,100 roles advertised between January and March 2016.
The CEO of recruitment firm Sonovate was unsurprised that London firms were still demonstrating a need for top-level contractors, although the level of the vacancies available suggests that there is a real need for contractors with top-notch leadership skills.
The fact that the adverts are seeking contractors to fill the roles suggests that the need for leadership isn’t necessarily a long-term one – many businesses want someone to see through a project which is coming to a conclusion or take the reins in a time of uncertainty.
The three highest paid contractor roles available in the capital during the first quarter of 2016 were a Head of Programme Management, attracting a rate of £850 per day, a Strategy Director on £750 per day and a Senior Change Manager at a rate of £737 per day. Even at the lower end of the scale, Programme Director roles were being advertised at rates of £616 per day.
The high volume of roles such as this being advertised and the rates on offer for these positions in London suggests that enterprise is thriving in the capital, with companies prepared to pay for the leadership skills and experience that they need to succeed.
Sonovate also believes that the demand for senior appointments will grow in the coming months, predicting that there will be an increase of 16 per cent by July 2016, peaking at 6,300 roles.
