Increasing opportunity for IT contractors to advise on sustainability issues
According to BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, businesses are seeking solutions that will help them to reduce their carbon emissions.
Growing legislation such as the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme will soon oblige companies to understand and report their energy consumption and other environmental factors, and IT contractors who are familiar with these issues will definitely have a competitive edge.
Commenting on these developments in the industry, Michiel van der Voort, director of international and professional development services at BCS, said that the institute ‘aims to provide the IT profession with more knowledge and expertise on lowering carbon emissions’ and continued, “There is no doubt that legislation is going to create demand for an IT professional with new skills, and generate new roles for example, we’re already seeing the emergence of new business roles, such as sustainability managers.”
BCS recently said the IT sector will play a key role in meeting the UK’s carbon budget in the future.
