Interim managers in high demand, finds industry expert
The latest Ipsos MORI survey, carried out by the Interim Management Association (IMA), has revealed that there has been a steady growth in the demand for interim managers since the middle of last year.
According to the report, there has been an increasing trend in the use of interim managers within the public sector. In the final quarter of 2012, just 28% of assignments were with state-run bodies; whereas March of this year saw this number rise to 43%.
Jason Atkinson, chairman of the IMA and managing director of Russam Interim, commented on the findings, “I’d suggest the results of the survey findings from the second quarter of 2013 will reveal whether we are seeing a real convergence of public and private sector use of interim management.”
“Today interim managers are increasingly in demand because they offer a low risk, affordable way to access specialist skills, manage projects or handle pressing business challenges. They deliver results quickly before moving on to their next assignment.”
He added, “Despite declines in the number of assignments completed and in progress compared to Q4, 2012, overall the survey highlights positive long-term trends. When it comes to the number of assignments in progress and new ones being started, they are on an upward curve. And, discussion amongst the IMA members indicates that this trend will continue when the data for the second quarter of the year is analysed and presented. Our sector isn’t bullet proof, we do see fluctuations and surprises.”
