Africa may not be known as a continent that has thriving oil or gas industries, but that may all be about to change. In recent years, Africa has become more and more appealing as an international destination for those who are keen to work abroad, and the improving infrastructure and developing operation capabilities has made it a much more rewarding proposition.

With Ghana and South Africa gaining strength as oil producing nations, and the natural gas industry in Africa as a whole advancing rapidly, the expectation is that demand for specialist contractors from all over the globe will increase rapidly throughout 2016.

The African oil market is certainly making its mark on a global scale, with nearly 8 million barrels produced every day in 2015. The discovery of seven new oil blocks in Ghana is expected to contribute to a rapid increase in their annual output over the next few years.

The past five years has seen Ghana’s production of oil increase 17-fold and as the country increases their investment in infrastructure they are also in need of more expertise in order to up their output.

Given that Ghana’s oil output could increase from 100,000 to 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day between now and 2024, meaning that the opportunities for available for contractors in positions that are likely to be both interesting and well-paid.

Other African oil producing countries such as Nigeria, Angola and Algeria continue to provide opportunities for ongoing growth, meaning that they are also likely to provide a range of jobs for contractors who are interested in international positions.

Africa’s gas industry is also growing, with countries such as Libya, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria all contributing to a range of roles which are likely to appeal to contractors, whereas exploration and investment in Mozambique is likely to provide plenty more opportunities.
