IT contractors could be commanding five figure rates
IT security is an area in which many companies feel particularly vulnerable and often choose to bring in experts in order to help manage and minimise their risks. With everything from sensitive customer data to financial details needing protection, there are plenty of opportunities for contractors with expertise in the field to find a steady stream of work.
This is particularly true at the moment as a recruitment firm have revealed that IT security contractors are able to benefit from the high rates available to them at the moment, and with ‘cybersecurity crisis management’ becoming a growth area, this is likely to continue. Demand for computer security experts has increased fourfold over recent months, and nobody working in the sector will be surprised to learn that this is mostly driven by response-led positions as opposed to jobs requiring prevention-based skills.
The news media has also contributed significantly to the way businesses view their cybersecurity needs, with reports of the hacking of big businesses such as Sony and Talk Talk prompting other firms to consider their position when it comes to managing the risks they face on a daily basis. In-house security teams are being bolstered and a number of companies are investigating the potential for contractors to be brought in as well, with their specialist expertise in high demand for short-term projects.
The agency who has released their figures has noted a record number of requests for IT security experts, particularly in comparison to the number they received in 2014. However, the skills crisis is, once again, making it difficult to full the positions which, in turn, creates a level of demand which bumps wages up to unprecedented levels, with some earning in excess of £3,000 per day and others earning five-figure sums.
