Contractor News Roundup: July 2020
The latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) report has revealed that more employers are now relying on the UK’s highly skilled contractors.
The recent JobsOutlook report found that eight out of ten employers (79%) are using contractors and temporary workers to provide short-term access to strategic skills.
The REC’s latest findings also revealed that many UK employers are looking to hire additional temporary staff over the next 12 months.
Of those surveyed, 43% of employers plan to increase their numbers within the next three months, and 40% are looking to up their contractor numbers in the next four to 12 months.
REC CEO Kevin Green commented on the JobsOutlook findings, “It’s clear that skills shortages are affecting the way in which employers use agency workers and increasing numbers are now relying on temporary staff to provide short-term access to strategic skills. This is a trend that is likely to continue as it becomes increasingly difficult to source the skilled permanent staff that businesses need to grow.
“There is some great news here for our industry as recruiters continue to successfully adapt to the challenge of skills shortages with more than 9 out of 10 employers reporting they are satisfied with the quality of candidates they are being provided by recruiters.”
