New business opportunity for Marketing Contractors
As increasing numbers of businesses recognise the value of using social media like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube as an integral part of their marketing plans, the marketing industry has seen job postings on many websites for ‘social media consultants’ increase dramatically. In fact, on PeoplePerHour.com they have jumped by a staggering 300% in the last year. PeoplePerHour.com founder Xenios Thrasyvoulou said: “We’re seeing increasing demand for social media experts to oversee the Twitter feeds and Facebook pages of a very wide variety of companies.”
The findings highlight how British businesses are rapidly incorporating social media into their marketing plans, but leading social media consultants are warning they lag behind their competitors from the other side of the Atlantic. Tony Wood, a freelance social media consultant from Norwich, said: “We’re six to 12 months behind American companies. In the US, around 90% of the top companies are really serious about social media and have invested in the infrastructure to make things happen. Here, it’s improving rapidly, but only around half of the FTSE 100 companies are proactively harnessing social media outlets. And when you get down to SMEs, it drops down to around a quarter.”
All of which means of course, that there is a huge opportunity for marketing contractors to get out there and start offering services in these areas.
