UK employers plan to hire more contractors
Contractors will be pleased to hear that a new report has found more UK employers are looking to hire flexible workers over the following 12 months.
Latest findings from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) have revealed that the first few weeks of 2014 have seen a significant boost in employer’s confidence, which in turn has resulted in plans for increasing hiring.
The REC ‘Jobs Barometer’, which is calculated from employers’ responses to questions about their hiring intentions and economic outlook has reached a peak of 38. This is 11 points higher than at the same time last year, and the highest score since the survey began in March 2009.
The JobsOutlook survey revealed that with regards to employers hiring intentions over the short-term and medium-term; 47% employers predict they will increase their use of temps over the next 3 months, while 46% say they will engage more agency workers over the next 4-12 months.
The REC’s JobsOutlook tracking survey reports the responses of 600 employers questioned about their hiring intentions over the next quarter and the next year. Respondents are drawn from across the public, private and non-profit sector, and from across a range of industries and sizes of organisation.
The REC’s director of policy Tom Hadley commented on the findings, “This is a reflection of employers’ growing confidence in the wider economic recovery as well as their belief in their own businesses.
