New data from a poll by global jobs platform Jobrapido shows that 35% of people who are looking for their next career challenge consider London to be the most likely location for their ‘dream job’ – or dream contract of course! And people would also be willing to relocate for that chance as well.

Why move to London for your next opportunity?

The Jobrapido poll focused on what UK job seekers thought about relocation, and whether they would be willing to move cities for the right opportunity – either permanent or contract. This supports what we have found in our own surveys, which is that London still tops the list of places in the UK with the best contractor roles.

It was also interesting to note that the closest second and third placed cities were Manchester and Edinburgh, but with just 11% and 6% of the vote respectively. So there is now doubt that London is the top choice – for a mix of lifestyle, and of course that all-important career move.

Should relocation be necessary at all?

For contractors and employees alike, sometimes you just have to take the plunge and up sticks, if you really do want the career of your dreams. The survey also found that only 13% of people think they are already in their ‘dream job’ so there is certainly room for improvement in many people’s working lives! Yet 33% said they wanted to stay in their hometown, and only 16% said they would be prepared to move cities for that perfect role.

It’s great to see that London is so popular – but with many people not wanting to move, it would be good if dream roles were available UK wide. And commenting on that thought, Jobrapido CEO Rob Brouwer said, “Until the UK moves toward a more decentralized structure, we’re going to see more and more job seekers leave familiar environments for the sole purpose of finding employment – companies and the government must work together to ensure job opportunities are widespread and lead to meaningful and progressive careers.”
